Hydrogen powered cars have been in the works for years; and now prototypes are ready for viewing. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, and it’s just natural that hydrogen used as an energy source would be in the future. For the prototype hydrogen powered cars, hydrogen fuel cells seem to be the preference, while some have converted gasoline powered combustion engines to use the hydrogen.
Currently, hydrogen energy is frequently made from natural sources such as methane or other fossil fuels; but, it can come from a vast range of sources, including wind, nuclear, and solar. The benefit of hydrogen as the power source, is that if it’s made WITHOUT using fossil fuels, it wouldn’t contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, or greenhouse gases, thus being very beneficial for the environment.
On the down side, there are a few problems that need to be dealt with before putting the hydrogen powered cars into full production. One of the problems is that of refueling stations; converting the current gasoline fueling stations to hydrogen capabilities could potentially cost 20 billion plus. Another problem is that the fuel cells of today cannot withstand the freezing temperatures of cold weather climates.
Once these problems are dealt with, hydrogen powered cars may rule the road!
